Will diamond cored hole affect the anchoring performance?

Hi Guys,

The builder has cored the hole but I have specified the anchoring as hammer drilled hole, is there a general rule of thumb in the reduction of the chemical anchor in diamond cored hole?

Have you had this before and how did you fix it?

Hi,

The approval of RE 500 V3 includes a range of drilling techniques. These are:

  - hammer drilling,
–- hammer drilling with Hilti hollow drill bit TE-CD, TE-YD,
- diamond coring,
- diamond coring followed by roughening with Hilti Roughening tool TE-YRT.

The condition of the concrete is important, for cracked concrete the approval requires when diamond coring holes must be roughened with the Hilti Roughening tool.

In uncracked concrete, all four techniques can be used however you need to design with the bond strength associated with that technique in the ETA. There is a lower bond strength for the diamond cored only holes.

Regarding your question, we would suggest to us the roughening tool so you obtain the same bond capacity as a hammer drilled hole as stated in the ETA, regardless of the condition of the concrete. Please note cleaning is critical and they must following the installation instructions to ensure the performance.

Cheers,
Dom

Hi guys,

The HY200-R now also has an ETA covering use in diamond cored holes, provided the roughening tool is used. Another chemical anchor product that can be used in cored holes is the HVU2 capsule anchor. Please feel free to take a look at the respective ETA documents available on our website www.hilti.com.au or if there are any queries, contact us at autechnicalcentre@hilti.com

Cheers
