Hi there,

At this stage, Australia does not have a standard for Post-installed rebar. The recommendation in reference to AS5216 would be to follow the Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchors Council (AEFAC) Technical note on: Post-installed rebar connections (available on link under technical notes: http://www.aefac.org.au/resources.php).

The technical note recommends the use of AS3600 to design the development length and tensile capacity of the post-installed rebar. AS3600 actually doesn’t cover post-installed rebar and only deals with cast-in rebar. Since post-installed rebar has a layer of adhesive between the bar and the concrete, the behaviour of the system would be dependent on the adhesive properties. Hence, the technical note states that to use the note, you must design with an adhesive product that has the pre-qualifications: European Technical Assessment (ETA) tested in accordance with TR023.

The key point here is that the chemical anchor you design with must have an ETA covering use for post-installed rebar applications. As an example, see the link to our product website for the RE500 V3 which shows it has individual ETAs for post-installed anchor and rebar applications.
