HY170 in cored holes

Can Hy170 or HY products be used in cored holes if you use the roughening tool. Do Hilti have approvals for this.

Hi Anthony,

Thank you for your query about the suitability of our Hybrid mortar range of HY200-R and HY170 in diamond cored holes.
The current approvals for these products when used with the following elements: HIT-V threaded rods, HIS-N Inserts and rebar do not include the installation using diamond cored holes and roughening tool.
I’d like to bring to your attention the HY200-R with the HIT-Z rods. This system’s approval includes the installation using diamond coring to drill the holes even without the use of a roughening tool.

How does this work?
The helix shape of the rod with a special coating, provides torque actuated expansion anchor characteristics. When the installation torque is applied, this tension load causes small cracks in the mortar at the closest annular distance between the rod and the bore hole surface. This forms wedges of hardened HY200-R. These wedges act like any expansion anchor wedge. The helix is pressing the shell against dust and bore hole wall, creating friction that holds the anchor in place. These expansion forces significantly increase friction to concrete.

The HIT-Z rods are available in the following sizes, and coatings:
Zinc and Stainless: M10, M12, M16 and M20
Galvanised coating: M16 and M20

I’ve also attached the European Technical Assessment (ETA) approval for HY200-R with the HIT-Z rod for your reference.
