How to protect against galvanic corrosion?

I am looking to use a Hilti stainless steel rod anchored into a external precast concrete wall panel. An aluminium rod will be threaded over the steel rod as shown in the image. What would be a solution to protect against galvanic corrosion?

Hi Ema,

Thank you for your question.

When dissimilar metals are in contact, the less noble metal will corrode to protect the metal that is more noble. Relatively speaking, if a less noble metal (such as Aluminium alloy) with a larger surface area is in contact with a more noble metal (Stainless steel alloy) with smaller surface area, generally there will be no galvanic corrosion. This may not necessarily apply the other way round.

Also, external surrounding conditions, such as the weather, contact with sea water etcetera, will affect the rate of corrosion.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.
