Clip-type anchor

Hi,

We'd like to anchor planter boxes onto a concrete slab. We are looking to avoid any holes through the base of the planter box, and as a result I was wondering if HILTI has a clip-on type of anchor system.

Basically the anchor rod's male end would be chemically anchored into the slab, and the female end would be incorporated into the planter box feet. This way the planer box will be clipped-on to the anchors. The planter box material would typically be GRC or Aluminium.

Would this be feasible? If yes, which products do you recommend?

Thanks.

Hi Hisham,

Thank you for your question.

It is our understanding that you require a configuration where the planter box feet are to be fastened onto the concrete slab, and you do not require a threaded rod protrusion from the concrete surface.

Based on the above understanding, the below anchoring options can be of interest to you:

1. Chemical anchoring: using an injectable product (RE 500 V3, HY 200-R, HY 170 depending on the load required) in conjunction with an internally threaded sleeve (HIS-N, HIS-RN Stainless steel), shown below.

The tapered end sits into the drilled hole end and the other end sits flush with the concrete surface. See below links for more information on this product:

HIS-N Carbon Steel (Zinc plated): https://www.hilti.com.au/anchor-fasteners/capsule-adhesive-anchors/r6283
HIS-RN Stainless steel: https://www.hilti.com.au/anchor-fasteners/capsule-adhesive-anchors/r6284

2. Mechanical anchoring: using HSC-I (or HSC-IR Stainless steel) internally threaded undercut anchors. These anchors use the undercut mechanism, can be used in shallow embedment depths (ideal for thinner concrete slabs), and can be installed relatively closer to the concrete edge.

The top end (rightside of the snap above) of this anchor sits flush with the concrete surface as well. See below links for more information:

HSC-IR Stainless steel: https://www.hilti.com.au/anchor-fasteners/undercut-anchors/r1208
HSC-I: https://www.hilti.com.au/anchor-fasteners/undercut-anchors/r1207

In general, it is recommended to use Stainless Steel fasteners where contact with Aluminium components occurs to avoid damage due to corrosion.

Designing for these anchors can be easily done in PROFIS Anchor software. If you do not have this software, it can be downloaded from the link below (free of charge). It is fast and very easy to use.
https://www.hilti.com.au/software/software-for-fastening-systems/r2755?itemCode=2097332

Regarding your question about the clip-on arrangement, all the available anchoring options will require a screwing arrangement. Can the planter box feet be bolted to the above internally threaded sleeves? If you would like to discuss this further can you please email us at autechnicalcentre@hilti.com?

I hope this helped.
